How far are you from town or beaches?

My Hawaii Hostel is located in a residential area along Alii Drive.  We are about 3 miles (5 km) from downtown Kona (Kailua Pier).  And about 2.5 miles from Coconut Grove, the first conglomerate of shops and restaurants.  It takes about 45-50 minutes to walk to town, about 15 minutes to bike, and about 5 minutes in a car or on the bus.  So although we are not in the heart of the town, it is not difficult to get to town from our location even without a car.  We have many guests stay with us who do not have cars and they find it easy to get around using public transportation and/or hitchhiking.  It is also possible to get to several grocery stores on the Kona Trolley.

The Kona Trolley stops right in front of the hostel. This can take you to town or beaches.  Kahalu’u Beach Park is about 2 miles (3.5 km) from the hostel.  Walking to Kahalu’u takes about 40 minutes.  Magic Sands Beach Park is about 1 mile (1.5 km) from the hostel with walking time being about 15-20 minutes.  Both Magic Sands and Kahalu’u are great beaches for sunbathing, and swimming.  Kahalu’u is also a popular site for snorkeling and surfing.

Some hostels in Hawaii require proof of onward travel.  Does My Hawaii Hostel also have this policy?

No, at this point we do not require proof of onward travel.  However, if you do not have plans for onward travel (i.e. you are a resident, living here on the Island, or transitioning to living on the Island), the maximum number of nights you may stay is four nights.
